Geert de Jong studied Sociology in Utrecht. In 1974 he started work for Van Dien & Co (later to become PricewaterhouseCoopers) as an organization advisor. In 1981 he made partner. His fields of expertise were, among others, strategy, top structure and human resource management. De Jong’s interest in human resource issues led to a thesis in 1987. During the remainder of his career he held various managerial positions within Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers, in the Netherlands as well as abroad. For instance, he was vice-chairman of the Executive Board of PricewaterhouseCoopers Netherlands and member of the International Board on behalf of the Management Consultants.
In 2002, De Jong made partner at SMC. Apart from his advisory work he is professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at VU University Amsterdam. He is still interested in questions regarding corporate and managerial issues related to strategy, structure, governance, and human resource management.
